Under the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, what educational system will the public and private schools and preschools use for the 2020/21 academic year?

The Ministry has adopted the 'Blended Learning' approach for the first semester of the 2020/21 academic year. This will apply to all stages of education across the public and private schools and preschools, as well as the higher education institutions.

What is blended learning? How will it be implemented?

The blended learning is an approach that combines distance learning and classroom-based lessons. According to this approach, students will attend to school premises one to three times per week. The daily attendance rate must not exceed 30% of the school capacity. Distance learning will be implemented on the days when students do not attend to school. Students, however, will take the mid-semester and end-of-semester exams at school premises. Schools will plan the exam schedules to ensure that physical distancing is maintained.

How will schools implement health requirements and social distancing during students' attendance?

Schools will break students into groups of up to 15 students in each classroom. Desks will also be arranged to keep a safe distance of 1.5 meters between students in the classroom. Schools will also organize the entry and exit of students to school grounds in order to maintain physical distancing and avoid overcrowding. Morning assembly and group activities, including trips, camps, celebrations and the like, will be suspended and replaced with virtual events, where possible.

What is the schools' plan to acquaint students with the attendance and learning plan, as well as precautionary measures?

During the first three school days (1-3 September), schools will introduce students to the precautionary measures that must be observed while on school campus. Preparatory and high school students will be asked to wear (cloth) face masks. All schools will arrange to comply with the instructions issued by the Ministry's Health and Safety Department. Relevant leaflets and brochures will be distributed to students and parents. Additionally, schools will provide students with the rotational attendance schedules for the first semester. The schedules will clearly identify distance learning days as well as the days when students will have to attend to schools. Full information will be provided to students on how to use the remote learning system effectively.
